Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Error: Newer version already installed

Problem

When I tried to install Adobe Acrobat reader from adobe.com. The installation process started but after sometime I got this error:

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC: Newer version already installed

I thought may be Acrobat reader is already installed but not working, so I thought to uninstall it using Add or remove programs. But I couldn't find Acrobat reader in the list which means it's not installed. Next I thought to install using the offline installer aka Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution. The installation process started but after sometime I got another error:

Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action InstallWebResources, location: C:\..\RdrServicesUpdater.exe, command: 20.013.20074

I tried restarting my computer. Running the installation process again and again but kept getting the error. Thankfully I found this solution for this error.

Solution

Do not install Acrobat reader by downloading it from adobe.com

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Type C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Setup\{AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-AC0F074E4100} in address bar. (You can simply copy and paste)
  3. Double click on AcroRead.msi. Follow the installation process.

Congrats! Now you have successfully installed Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.

Reason of Error

Windows somehow thinks that the installer which already exists in your C:/ProgramData/Adobe/Setup folder is better than the one you are downloading from adobe.com. Hence it was not allowing you to install. Doesn't make much sense! Right?
